Southside School Vision

We will help each student succeed by providing an education using specific, measurable, and attainable goals.

Welcome to the Southside Elementary School Website!  We hope that you find our website helpful and informative.   Southside School serves approximate 210 children in Kindergarten through Grade 3.  We are a SAGE (Student Achievement Guarantee in Education) School, which means that we strive for a student-teacher ratio of 15:1 in our classrooms.   For those that wish to participate, our District Nutrition Service provides breakfast and a lunch for students.  Information about this program is on our District website.

The Sparta Area School District and its schools provide numerous educational services for the children.  We have tried to provide a good overview of these services on our school webpage.  The District webpage also provides a great deal of information as well.

When you enroll your child at Southside, you will be provided with an Elementary School Parent Handbook.  It is extremely important that you read each and every page as this handbook contains a great deal of information about our school policies and procedures.  If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to give us a call.

While a school's primary responsibility is teaching the students the needed academic skills and concepts, which will enhance their chances of becoming a contributing member of our democratic society, we also have the important responsibility for nurturing their social and emotional development.  Our #1 priority is that all students are safe at all times.   We have numerous procedures and policies in place to see that all students are safe, whether it is walking to or from school each day, riding the school bus or while attending school.   If you have a concern about your child's safety, we want to hear from you right away.

The school, and the home, needs to be educational partners in meeting the needs of your child.  The school cannot do it by itself.  Become involved in your child's school! Get involved in the Southside Parent-Teacher Organization.  This organization is all about doing great things for the children and their families in our school.  (Be sure to visit their web page!) When your child knows that you help the school, attend meetings at school, and you demonstrate that you care about what they are learning, they learn that their education is important to you.  The research tells us that when the parents are actively involved in their child's education, their children have the best chance of being successful, not only in school, but in life.     So get involved at their school and help your child be all that s/he can be!
